The past decade has brought us many things. Blogs, social networking platforms, micro blogging, portfolio websites, internet notoriety. And along with all these things has come the growth of the ’personal brand.’

Traditionally the concept of branding has been one that applied only to businesses and organisations. It related to the sign above their offices, the logo on their business stationery, the way they did business. With the growth of digital – branding soon came to mean their website design, the way they presented themselves across social media, the type of content they choose to share.

New digital platforms have also made it easier than ever for individuals to shine. And, like businesses, individuals have websites, social media presences and shared content. And with those things – whether the individual is aware of it or not – comes personal branding.

Personal branding is the way you present yourself online. It’s everything from your screen name, to your bio, to your avatar picture, to the content you share. Your personal brand is a vital part of the way you portray yourself – and that portrayal stretches offline too.

Ensuring that you are making the most of your personal brand can be hugely beneficial – whether or not you’re actively looking to advance your career.
