It’s mid July, the evenings are light and the temperatures are (sometimes!) soaring. If you’re job hunting, the simple fact of summer might have caused you to slow down. There is a reoccurring myth that the job market shuts down over summer; and many candidates give up on their job hunt altogether.
However, we believe this idea to be exactly what it is; a myth. Just because the weather is better, it doesn’t mean that recruiters and employers have given up filling positions. In fact, if you have given up searching during this time – it’s highly likely that you’ll miss out on opportunities.
Summer can in fact be a great time to look for a new job. When the weather is good, many workplaces become more relaxed which can often mean your current employers will be more willing to offer time off for interviews.
Another bonus of summer job hunting is that often the process can be sped up in order to allow for employers and recruiters taking holiday time. This can be mean that the move from initial application to interview and a job offer can be quicker.
The job market moves just as much during the summer as it does during other times of year. If you want to take time off to enjoy the weather, fine. But it will likely mean that you miss out.
