At Yell we are evolving; from being a leading supplier of print and online digital advertising for SME’s to being the leader in the local eMarketplace for consumers and SME’s; providing digital platforms that include the traditional Yell products such as Yellow Pages, Yell Online, Search Marketing Services, web sites and video that comprise our marketing services portfolio and introducing new products such as co-branded loyalty cards and transactional business services. We have also partnered with Microsoft, NetBiscuits and Bazaarvoice and acquired Znode a multi platform ecommerce provider to add real impetus to our offerings.

Role Responsibilities:

• Design, plan, develop, deploy and maintain working software in a fast-paced environment using agile methods and iterative delivery of business value
• Participate in a scrum team dedicated to a task such as online mapping, mobile support, content acquisition and management, and/or search development
• Contribute to the success of the scrum team even if a particular task might exceed the requirements of a strict role definition
• Reliably use the latest development technologies and suites to quickly produce and deploy software, and mentor others in the same
• Design, develop, deploy and maintain advertising, content, and lead generation products and services on a large-scale website
• Quickly and reliably use Java, XML and web services
• Build and deploy for SOA and SAAS-based production environments

Qualifications/Technical Knowledge:

Essential

• Expert in Java, XML, XPath, feeds, web services and website architecture
• Substantial Apache, Tomcat and Linux experience
• Expert with open source libraries and frameworks such as spring & the apache libraries
• Expert in agile and iterative development methodologies, fast business capability turn-around
• Experience with test driven development; experience with Selenium / JBehave a plus; experience with the automated testing of XML-based web services is desirable
• Experience of leading/mentoring developers/engineers and providing training (for the senior level role)

Desirable

• Applicants with development experience with XQuery or the areas of search engines and information retrieval will be at a particular advantage.
• Experience with writing and deploying highly scalable server-side components
• J2EE development and deployment experience, preferably within a JBoss context
• Familiarity with either Oracle or MySQL in the context of using JDBC and Hibernate or a similar persistence framework
• Familiar with JSPs, Taglibs, XPath, Ajax
• Prior experience with map APIs / SDKs
