The Finance function is responsible for establishing Network Rail’s cash requirements through the planning process, securing the income requirements through the regulatory process and funding the Company’s borrowing requirements through the financial markets. It controls expenditure and provides clear and accurate management information. Providing value for money from suppliers through contracts and procurement the Finance function also mitigates the Company’s exposure to financial risk. In addition the function upholds sound financial control and regulation to meet all external statutory and regulatory financial reporting requirements that are expected of a major listed UK company.

Job Purpose
- Work within Group Finance as part of the Central Investment Team undertaking all elements team activities associated with investment processes and governance and accounting.
- To provide appropriate, independent financial challenge of plans and results against internal and external performance indicators/benchmarks.
Key Accountabilities
- Produce the company’s management accounts
- Report corporate investment results to all internal and external stakeholders.
- Assess, review and critique investment proposals
- Ensure corporate governance policies and investment regulations are adhered to
- Monitor and analyse financial performance against objectives identifying risks and opportunities and other issues and corrective action required if necessary.
- Produce critiques of reporting unit results to support the Management Business Reviews highlighting areas of potential inefficiency and efficiency savings.
- Maintain control process and audit trail for the business plan / control budget including feedback to Business Planning to measure targets by current performance.
- Produce the management accounting review pack.
- Produce the finance section of the Annual Return.
- Produce the medium term (12 weeks to 1 year) cash forecast for the company.
- Undertake accounting for the Group Adjustments business unit.
- Undertake benefits tracking and realisation on NR investment
- Produce ad hoc reports on emerging issues.
Essential
- Full professional Accounting qualification (CIMA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (or equivalent spreadsheet package) and analytical skills
- Advanced communication and presentation skills
